Marae Trip
On the 28th of August the whole School went on a Marae trip.
We were welcomed by a woman. We came into the Marae and sat
on the soft carpet. We sang some songs, listened to some Moari stories and played some games. After, we went and had a bit of morning tea and had some playtime. The Marae trip was great! Here are a few photos.

Mixed Media - visual arts
In Term 2 our Visual Arts focused was on Mixed Media. We finally finished our pieces of art at the end of the term. We started off by creating two hands, most of us copied our own hands as templates. One hand represents our past and the other hand our future. We used lots of different materials and symbols to make our artwork as well as exploring a range of different techniques with watercolor paint. This is my art work.

Egg Sitting
In room six this term we did an egg sitting challenge. Like in any other challenge there were rules. Rule number one was that you weren't allowed to boil nor fry your egg. Rule number two you weren't allowed to leave it alone by itself at home unless someone was looking after it. My eggs name was omlet. I would take her to daycare every single morning then I would take her out for lunch. I had a great time egg sitting.

How does the Water Cycle work?
I am learning to inform my audience through an explanation
By Vaiola
When drinking a bottle of water have you ever stopped and wondered where that water came from? Did you know water has been around us for millions of years all because of an amazing cycle called the water cycle. The term cycle means a set of steps or a series of steps which repeats over and over again. 97 percent of earth's water is salt water, 3 percent is freshwater and sadly only 1 percent of that water is actually drinkable. There are three main stages in the water cycle, evaporation, condensation and precipitation. If you were to remove any of these stages the water cycle would not be complete. Let’s start with evaporation
Evaporation is the first stage in the water cycle. Evaporation is a process by which a liquid changes into a gas called water vapour or aqueous vapour. Aqueous vapour is another name for water vapour. Evaporation happens when the sun heats up the water in lakes, rivers, ponds and oceans. Most of the water turns into water vapour. The water vapour then rises up into the sky it then forms into a cloud. Water vapour is invisible so you can not see it rising into the sky. An example of water vapour in our homes is a boiling kettle. When the kettle is boiled the steam from the kettle rises. Once you have noticed the steam has vanished it has turned into water vapour. Now to our next stop condensation.
Condensation is the second stage in the water cycle. Condensation is the change of which water vapour in the clouds cools down and turns back into tiny little droplets of water. An example of condensation is when you breath on a mirror. The warmth of your breath hits the cold mirror forming tiny little water droplets on the mirror. Some of the water vapour turns into liquid. Thousands of tiny water droplets form on the mirror. This is called condensation. Condensation is the opposite of evaporation. Once condensation is over precipitation takes its role.
Precipitation is the final stage in the water cycle. Precipitation is a process by which water falls from a cloud. It can also appear not just as water but as hail, sleet and snow. Then the rain falls into rivers, lakes and oceans. After precipitation it starts all over again from evaporation back to precipitation.
These are the three stages of the water cycle. Evaporation is a process by which water changes into a gas called water vapour. Condensation is the change of which water vapour in the clouds turn back into little tiny droplets of water then last but not least precipitation. Precipitation is a process by which water falls from the clouds. What an interesting process this water has been through just to get in your drink bottle.

GSS Book Week 2019
Authors, Illustrators, Books, Book Week, Parade, Event, 2019
Room 6 was hungry for books during our book week. We had a whole week celebrating all things books. We had author visits from Stu Duval and James Russell. Stu presented workshops on storytelling, cartooning and writing. James shared his books and told us stories. We did lots of cool book week activities in class like making dust jacket covers, wanted posters, bookmarks and story cubes. Finally our favourite day arrived, Friday. We got to dress up as our favourite characters and partake in the literacy treasure hunt. Overall book week is a fantastic week every year. Room 6 LOVES BOOK WEEK!
Here are some photos from our time:
My book week character was:

Watercare
Watercare
Water, water everywhere! On Friday of week 6, we were lucky to have Sally from Watercare come to teach us more about the water. We did a drama activity and experiments. Firstly we examined the process that water goes through to become drinkable water in our households. Our drama was based on the process that the water goes through to be cleaned. We were the water going through each stage. We had so much fun as we ventured around the school. Once we learnt how water is cleaned we then had to try and clean the dirty water ourselves. We had to create a filter system in partners. We had to do four different tests for our experiments. We experimented with a range of filters to try and test which filter system was the best

My Growth Mindset Person
Last term in room six we learned about a fixed mindset and a growth mindset and how people overcame their fixed mindset. I researched all about Marie Curie and how she overcame her fixed mindset. I chose Marie because I felt that she was inspiring and she never gave up on her dreams.
Facts about Marie Curie:
Marie was born in Warsaw Poland. Her birth name was Maria Sklodowska but her family called her Maya. She had four siblings Bronislawa Dluska, Helena Sklodowska, Zofia Sklodowska and Jozef Sklodowski. She had two daughters Eve Curie and Irene Joliot Curie. Marie is famous for discovering polonium and radium.
I had so much fun learning about Marie Curie!

In the Pathway of a Discus
In the Pathway of a Discus
February 2019
By Vaiola
I am learning to entertain my audience with a recount.
My worst fears were coming true… It was Athletics Day practice at school today! “Hope you do well today,” Mum cheered as she dropped me off at school. I was wishing that I didn't come to school that day. I gathered up all my courage and walked through the school gates. And this is where the story begins.
RING! The bell rang and Room 7 was lining up in their colourful clothes to support our houses. Once we reached the turf, we went into our house teams I was in Blake. I went and sat down with my house team in a group of my friends, just chatting about some stuff until our deputy principal, Miss Gleeson called out for all the nine and ten year olds to go over by the car park where we would see our teacher for Discus.
We ran ever so quickly to the teacher eager to get to the event. There she was waiting by the car park on the field. We all lined up in an orderly fashion as all the equipment was set up waiting for us to learn how to throw those heavy discuses. The teacher had chosen four people to grab a huge black heavy discus. I was one of those four people. I grabbed one and sat back down. “Right, I’m going to show you how to throw a discus and then you are going to try yourselves.” The teacher said. She had shown us and told us some tips.
She called me up first. I was excited… I took a huge breath and said I can do this. I threw the black discus as hard as I can. It landed right in front of the cones. I was so proud of myself! I sat back down with one of my friends, who said I did really well. We were just talking until three girls asked me and Annika to move backwards so that they could do some gymnastics, we said sure and moved. More, more, and more please. Then we stopped Annika asked if that was enough. Yes said one of the girls. So we continued on talking. I turned around to see a discus coming right at me!! Then…
Bam! I had got hit in the face by a discus!! The gushing blood was dripping onto my shirt. I got so scared I couldn't talk. Everybody was screaming. The teacher took me to the sickbay to stop the blood but nothing seemed to work. So the principal rushed me to the A&E. While the school contacted my parent who rushed to the A&E with curiosity to what happened.
My parents finally came and I got three stitches. It was very painful but mum said, “At least you didn’t die, right?” I just giggled. Well now I know to look after myself, to pay attention and make sure I am in the right spot at the right time.

shine week. We raise money to help people whose lives are affected domestic violence. In support we all wore orange clothes and brought a gold coin donation to help the charity. Here are some pictures
Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday
Tuesday was Shrove Tuesday. We all had a great day in room 6. The festivities started with the burning
of the ashes on the turf. This was a new and exciting experience that not many of us had seen before.
Later on during Religious Education we learnt more about Shrove Tuesday and Lent. People used to get rid of all their luxury items such as flour, sugar, butter, eggs and milk by making pancakes. We were
even able to enjoy some pancakes of our own. We all thought it was a great start to lent and we are
looking forward to the lenten season as we prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus. We are the
season of Lent and it is a time of preparation.
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday
Today was Ash Wednesday. We went to church and sang some hymns, got the ashes on our foreheads, sung happy birthday to a little girl starting school on her birthday! We then went up and got a blessing. We did make an attempt to keep our ashes on our foreheads, but that was a fail due to swimming and itching it off. We had a good day and hope everyone else did to. During the lent season we have to remember to pray, almsgiving and helping others. else did to. During the lent season we have to remember to pray, almsgiving and helping others.
This year I am focusing on trying to do more housework without being asked and to try my hardest in my school work.

Year six camp
Year six camp
While the rest of the school was sleeping, enjoying their last day of the school holidays the year six were awake grabbing the last of their essential camp items. Stuffing the cars full of luggage we hit the road making our way up to MERC, Long Bay Beach for the annual Year 6 Leadership Camp. It was a fun, busy and hot week with lots of activities and things to do. There was so much to do with out amazing instructors and helpers, activities like paddle boarding, archery, abseiling, kayaking, rock climbing, giants ladder, stack’em and the list goes on. After the camp day we had plenty to do at night with the camp mass, school council voting, the talent quest and
even a spooky game of spot light.
My two favourite activities were absailing and giant paddle boarding
Room 6 Charism
Room 6 Charism
Did you know the reason Good Shepherd School named their syndicates Connolly and Sheridan? Connolly and Sheridan were the names of the first two sisters that worked at Good Shepherd School when it opened. That is just one of the fun facts we learnt this week when we explored the charism of our school. The charism of our school is the flavour of our school, it is what makes us Good Shepherd School. Over the week we looked at the history of the school and unpacked the visual Image of the Good Shepherd Cross with the values, scripture, feast days and the St Mary MacKillop sayings. We unpacked the values and why we have those values. In groups we identified what each value looked, sounded and felt like before making up definitions. Another new fact I learnt was the sisters were called the Brown Joes also because of their brown outfits.
Room 6's piece of the puzzle
Room 6's piece of the puzzle
In Room 6 we are all a piece of the puzzle. There are 29 students and we each complete our puzzle. Without one of us we would not be Room 6. During the second week of school (once the year 6 were back from camp) we spent time learning about each other and completing our piece of the puzzle. We learnt that we are all different and unique made in the image of God. But we also learnt that sometimes people need a little helping hand to make learning fair. Check out our pieces of the puzzle in Room 6 Foyer to learn more about each of us.
“It’s always the small pieces that make the big picture.”Here is a picture of our factual posters:
Leadership
Leadership
This year I am proud to take on the role of cultural leader. I look forward to this role because I get to learn different cultures and teach them to the school and I get to share the experience of being a cultural leader. I am also looking forward to co-operate with the other cultural leaders by helping them, supporting them and also helping them organise.
